Eighth Annual Coonhounds on Parade May 20, 2007 Birmingham, Michigan The only parade in the country with Coonhound Rescues! This is our big chance to change a lot of opinions of our wonderful dogs. This is also the day of the largest Basset Waddle in the country. Last year they had almost 1000 dogs from all over. Just imagine, a day in Shain Park with hound lovers! This is always one of our biggest fund raising events of the year to benefit Michigan Coonhound Rescue, and probably the most fun! We also will be continuing our fundraising for our new DV Sanctuary and K9 Off-Base Housing. We will have craft items and other dog related items for sale. This year we will also be having a “Chinese Auction” and 50/50 drawing. You will find a pledge sheet attached to this letter. (Make more copies as needed.) Your mission is to collect as many pledges for every block your coonhound, honorary coonhound or sponsored foster dog walks in the 10 block parade. (They all finish, by the way.) You know who to ask, the person you bought all the Girl Scout Cookies from, the neighbor whose kid was selling candles and wrapping paper, friends, co-workers, the person who has the candle parties, total strangers. We will have terrific prizes for the top pledge collectors and all donations are tax deductible. This year we have gift bags and bandannas for each of our dogs,. By the way, does your company do matching donations? We’ll be happy to fill out the necessary forms. We can take cash, checks made out to MCR, and, we can take credit card donations through PayPal (using the vik@coonhound911.org account).
Our Dogs
We ask that all dogs be able to handle the heavy socializing, which will be going on with other dogs, their folks, and parade goers. Honorary coonhounds (coonhounds for the day) are welcome, too. All dogs must have a current dog license or proof of current rabies vaccine. Please bring a small water dish and water for your dogs. We are asking that each dog have just one adult in the parade. We want to show off our dogs! If you are not walking a dog in the parade, please cheer from the sidelines and take photos or video.
Where
We will be in Shain Park (near Lot 7) in downtown Birmingham, on the corner of Henrietta and Merrill. We will have our tent set up and I am sure you will hear the Boyz. If you are walking in the Parade, it is important that you check in between 11:30 am and 12:30. Your dogs will get a bandanna, so everyone knows who you are with. Please bring your pledges at that time. We will have very nice prizes for the top pledge getters. The parade starts on Old Woodward. We will give you our location in the parade when you check in. All dogs and walkers should be in place by 12:30 p.m.. The parade starts at 1:00. Bring a water bottle for the waiting; it can get warm on the street.
Socializing
This is our chance to catch up with all our adopters and former foster dogs. We are so looking forward to it! Please bring a blanket or chairs, so you can be comfortable, too. The Celebration in the park continues until 4:00 pm. There are games, music, and other entertainment, and it’s all free!We will be offering free face painting to the children in the park. It also gives us a chance to meet potential adopters and foster homes.
Volunteers Needed
We need help setting up the tent, displays, crates and face painting starting at 10:30 am. In addition, folks to hold the dogs while we set up.
Check in table- collect sign in sheets, pledges and give out bandannas and gift bags starting at 11:30 a.m..
We will be providing face painting to the children in the park. Face painters are needed, from 12-4pm, for as long or as short a time as you can give. Very little talent is needed-most want a simple flower, stars, balloons, hearts or a dog. Bring your favorite paintbrush if you have one.
Information tables-answer questions about rescue, your dogs, give out applications and take names for us to call.
Maintain Chinese auction table, lots of ticket sellers!
Tear down and pack up- starting at 3:30 pm.
We would also appreciate copies of photos or videos taken on Parade Day.
