 Recommended Reading These are the two books I recommend every dog owner have in their library. I refer back to mine often. I have also provided links to the best pricing I have found on the internet. We don't receive anything from the sales of these books. They are just my favorite.  The Dog Listener--How to Communicate With Your Dog for Willing Cooperationby Jan Fennell This book was a total epiphany for me. It makes so much sense! It does involve a few lifestyle changes, but they are well worth the results. You do need to follow all the steps consistently to see results. When you slip back into your old ways, your dog slips back into their back behaviors, too. Half.com has the best deals. From the website- The author, a dog trainer with over 30 years of experience, explains her method of humane dog training. Based on the premise that, in order to properly train a dog, a human must relate to the dog on its own level of understanding, the author suggests that humans treat dogs the way dogs treat each other in the wild. In short, dog owners must prove themselves to be not just another member of the dog pack but the actual alpha dog--the leader of the pack. As the "alpha dog" the human will then set the parameters for proper behavior. This method of dog training does not rely on force but rather on a system of rewards.  Mother Knows Best- The Natural Way to Train your Dogby Carol Lee Benjamin A common sense approach to training your dog. Great for first time dog owners and the more experienced owner. It's great to read with kids, too. She explains some dog behavior and equates is with the human equivalent. Half.com again has the best pricing.  Coonhounds A Popular Dogs Megabook This is the only book or magazine which has excellent and accurate information about coonhounds. You'll even notice some of our dogs on the pages! This is a must have for the new coonhound owner and just a great read for those of us who have these lovable goofy dogs.
