ABOUT MICHIGAN COONHOUND RESCUE

purpparkMichigan Coonhound Rescue was officially incorporated in 1998. We started rescuing dogs about 26 years ago, and decided to focus exclusively on the Coonhound varieties in 1990.
We are recognized Federal Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Federal ID
38-3491158

Mission

Michigan Coonhound Rescue is dedicated to the rescue and placement of Coonhounds in permanent family homes. We work with the Treeing Walker, Redbone, Bluetick and English varieties. We make a lifetime commitment to the dogs we rescue.

Services

· Physical Rescue.
This includes providing foster care, temperament evaluation, medical treatment, spay or neuter, and basic training to abandoned, stray and abused coonhounds, in order to find permanent family homes for them.

· Foster Homes are provided by Rescue volunteers
. They provide loving homes until a permanent home can be found. We are always in need of good Foster Homes around the country. Foster families housebreak, crate train, socialize, start basic obedience training and most important love their foster coonhounds as their own. We do not have a physical shelter yet, so we can only help as many dogs as we have foster homes.cgatcasey

· Medical Treatment.
When a coonhound is accepted into Rescue, a veterinarian immediately evaluates it. All dogs get age appropriate vaccines, are heartworm checked, wormed, spayed or neutered and given any other medical treatment as necessary.

· Placement Services.
We maintain a National Listing of coonhounds available to homes and a list of persons seeking coonhounds. These lists are updated and checked daily for possible matches. We will cross-post coonhounds available from shelters and other rescue groups. We try to keep these postings up to date, but can not guarantee any dog will still be available.

· Education
. Members of Michigan Coonhound Rescue are always available to provide help and assistance to coonhound owners. While we do not always have room in a foster home, we can provide advice on finding a home for a coonhound. We are happy to advise on nutrition, health care, behavior problems and other needs.

· To Promote Coonhounds as Pets and Companions.
We also provide public education regarding coonhounds as pets. While coonhounds are not for everyone, these true American breeds, make wonderful pets and companions. We take our dogs to Adoption Events, Carnivals and even walk in the Birmingham, MI Parade each May.

· To Promote Responsible Pet Ownership
, including the spay or neutering of all pets.

DONATIONS

We are an all volunteer organization. Every dollar we receive goes directly to the care of our dogs. Every donation is tax deductible in accordance with Federal Law. (Check with your Tax Professional for details.)

There are also many things we are always in need of:

~Blankets and Quilts- every adopted dog is sent to his/her new home with their favorite blanket.
~Compressed Rawhide Bones- safer than regular rawhide
~6' Leashes- Nylon, Cotton or Leather- every adopted dog is sent home with a new leash.
~20"-24" adjustable, quick release collars
~Stuffed animals, squeakers (I will sew these into toys we get from the Salvation Army.)
~Cuz balls- Large and Medium sizes- although the feet don't last long, the balls last for years.
~We only feed premium Nutro Max Mini Bites- gift cards from Pet Supplies Plus, Pet Smart and Pet Food and More are gratefully excepted.
~Paper Towels, Bleach, and Pine Sol
~Monetary donations are used for medical care, pet food and other need the dogs have. You can donate through our Pay Pal account.

Special wants-
jeep
~Color Printer, Scanner, Fax unit- HP preferred but if it's working we can use it.
~Laser printer- used is great and long as it is in working condition
~Van or SUV for transporting the dogs. Our last van died in December 2005. It's rough transporting dogs in an old, 2 door Grand Prix. You will be able to deduct the full market value of the vehicle as we will use this only for the Rescue.
~Laptop computer- for adoption events. Age, software, processor not important as long as it can access the internet and runs on a battery.
~Nicer quality digital camera- so we can keep updated photos on this site. (We had a great one, until the cats played soccer on a bookcase one night.)

You can bring any donation to our Adoption Days (see Events) or any donation, including checks and money orders can be sent to:
